Each school is distinctive and has its own special qualities. It is tempting to concentrate upon the high academic standards achieved in our school but that doesn’t really tell you what we are like. The children’s parents take part in a survey every year and are asked what they think about us. Consistently year after year they talk about the school’s very broad curriculum with lots of exciting events. They value the extensive extra curriculum including sport and music and the school performances. And finally they value the atmosphere in school which is described as friendly and nurturing. Not surprisingly, these same aspects of the school’s work were highlighted in the school’s recent OfSTED report.

The children play an active part in the life of the school not only as learners but as class and school councillors with our oldest children attending full governors’ meetings. The children similarly talk about the range of activities available and that there is always an adult to talk to if they have a problem.

Every child at the age of eight years learns how to play the violin with both the instrument and tuition being provided free of charge. Children also have flute, clarinet, brass, recorder and clarinet lessons where the instrument is provided by the school and tuition is heavily subsidised.

With so much available to them, children flourish becoming happy and confident individuals with a desire to learn and try new experiences.
